Different Clinical Features of Idiopathic Achalasia in Various Countries

Idiopathic achalasia is a motility disorder affecting the lower esophageal sphincter. Dysphagia hallmark symptom, but patients may exhibit other symptoms. The aim of this review to compare symptoms globally. PubMed and Google Scholar were filtered from 1952–2021 with search terms achalasia, epidemiology, diet, countries, genetics. A total 14 articles addressed demographics, symptom profiles, genetics, diagnosis criteria amongst 2463 patients. Data on countries’ climate diet obtained through Arc Geographic Information System (GIS) Our World in Data. Countries grouped by similar zones diets. Achalasia varied region. In West Africa, parotid swelling, anemia, dehydration; diminished appetite East Asia; dysphagia weight loss Asia Europe; respiratory symptoms, reflux, retrosternal pain North America; vomiting Southern Asia. Weighted percentages dietary oils/fats (24.3%) America, Western (17.8%); Europe (17.7%); (17.6%); Africa (14.7%); (13.8%); (12.4%); Northeast (10.1%). Conditions such as Down Syndrome Triple syndrome are associated achalasia. There was no correlation for presentation zones. likely multifactorial. Diet, environmental factors play significant roles.
